When moving, it’s highly recommended that you hire a house-moving service. They will help you move furniture and generally empty out your home, without hurting or damaging anything. Moving house is a stressful experience. Don’t add to it by having to move your belongings on your own.
You can still do some of the work yourself. However, there are certain tasks that you should not entrust to a moving service.
This will require you to spend the majority of your time packing boxes or other storage containers. It’s your responsibility to package any small items or anything personal. This will require some skill. You must invest in good quality boxes. The bottom of the box can give out and your items can fall. The removalists will know how to hold the boxes correctly, but you can help them by being as helpful as possible.
Label your boxes properly. Use a pen or white stickers to label items as fragile. This will prevent them from being put at the bottom.
As you prepare to pack your boxes, consider the contents. Keep fragile items away from heavy items. Otherwise, the heavy items might crush the breakables in case the box tips. It is also easier to unpack if you keep things together in a ‘theme.
The items you place inside the boxes should be properly wrapped and packed for your moving company. You want to make sure they move as less as possible. So, you should fill any gaps with tissue or bubblewrap.
You should also think of ways to protect your items by using extra wrapping. This will prevent the boxes from moving. However, you can also use it to wrap parts that could otherwise be lost, protrude out, or have a delicate nature.
You may also find that certain items, such as ornaments which are too large, will just be wrapped. Protecting protruding or sharp parts and edges with bubble-wrap and tape is still important.
